ScottsMiracle-Gro Gives Back to its Roots

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
September 22, 2014

Company teams up with Assemblywoman Schimel and Plant A Row for the Hungry, Port Washington, New York to donate Gro-ables

The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company furthered its philanthropic mission to Give Back to Gro by donating hundreds of Gro-ables™ Seed Pods™ to support Port Washington. The company was connected to the Plant A Row for the Hungry program through the Office of New York State (NYS) Assemblywoman Michelle Schimel.

Plant A Row used this donation to further its mission of providing food to the hungry by distributing the seeds to the local community and groups, like the Port Washington Children’s Center and Our Lady of Fatima Church to use in their gardens this fall. The vegetables, herbs, and fruit grown from the seeds were then donated back to the Plant A Row Program to distribute to needy families.

“Plant A Row is such a wonderful opportunity for people to enjoy gardening and offer the fruits of their labor to those in need. Marvin Makowski has brought his life and love to this very important project. Watching the young children at the Port Washington Children’s Center participate is a joy all around. Thank you Scott’s Miracle-Gro for your interest and contributions to Plant A Row,” said Assemblywoman Schimel.

Plant A Row for the Hungry collects locally grown food as part of its efforts to collect and distribute food for those in need in the local community. The organization works with The Bayles Garden Center, where residents can drop of donations from their garden. The food is then delivered to outreach programs at local churches and synagogues and distributed to hundreds of people in Port Washington.

“We were so happy to receive this donation of Miracle- Gro-ables™ Seed Pods™ to help further our mission of outreach,” said Marvin Makofsky, Co- Chair of the Port Washington Program. “It is so wonderful to have all these businesses and organizations come together to help serve the community.”

Give Back to Gro is part of The ScottsMiracle-Gro Company’s larger effort to enhance lives by bringing people together through gardens and green spaces. Since 2011, the company has awarded hundreds of grants helping communities across the country create gardens and green spaces that promote active and healthy lifestyles.
