ScottsMiracle-Gro Kicks Off Spring with GRO1000 Garden and Green Space Grant Awards

Enhancing Our Cities

In 2011, ScottsMiracle-Gro launched GRO1000, a community outreach initiative to grow 1,000 community gardens and green spaces by 2018, our company's 150th is designed to provide schools, neighborhoods, and communities in need with the benefits that greenspaces provide, such as offsetting pollution, bettering access to fresh produce, promoting physical activity, and lowering stress.

Studies have also shown neighborhood safety increases noticeably in communities and neighborhoods where beautification projects are promoted. In order to help bring community gardens and green spaces to cities across the United States, Canada, and Europe, ScottsMiracle-Gro has partnered with the U.S. Conference of Mayors, the Garden Writers Association, Plant A Row/ Grow A Row for the Hungry, the National Gardening Association, Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, and Communities in Bloom.

As a part of GRO1000 and our Green Space Program, Scotts Miracle-Gro is awarding Grassroots Grants to help foster community spirit and public service. Grassroots Grants of up to $1,500 are awarded to local communities to help bring edible gardens, flower gardens, and public green spaces to even more neighborhoods in the United States. In 2014, our company awarded Grassroots Grants to numerous non-profit, civic organizations. Here is a full list of this year's recipients.
