ScottsMiracle-Gro(R) Makes Largest Gro-ables(R) Seed Pods(TM) Donation Ever to Feeding America(R) for Families in Need

Over Five Million Pounds of Food Will be Harvested From Miracle-Gro(R) Gro-ables(R) Seed Pods(TM) to Support Garden Development at Local Food Banks in the Ongoing Fight to End Hunger

MARYSVILLE, Ohio, June 8, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- ScottsMiracle-Gro donated over 800,000 Miracle-Gro® Gro-ables® Seed Pods™ to Feeding America, the nation's leader in the fight to end hunger. Feeding America will send the Gro-ables® Seed Pods™ to its network of food banks and community gardens to grow fresh vegetables and herbs like tomato, basil, cilantro, cucumber and sweet peppers. Miracle-Gro® Gro-ables® Seed Pods™ come with everything needed to start growing a variety of foods which would allow Feeding America's food banks to provide their agencies and families served the opportunity to grow their own vegetables. This single donation has the potential to harvest over five million pounds of food to help fight hunger.

This is the largest donation of Gro-ables® Seed Pods™ ScottsMiracle-Gro has made and it will benefit food banks across the nation in support of Feeding America's mission to end hunger. With nearly one in six Americans facing hunger, this donation is intended to support home gardens or Community Gardens in areas supported by food banks and their agencies where the produce grown will be used to feed some of the nearly 46 million low-income individuals in the nation.

"We are proud to support Feeding America's mission to end hunger in America," said Ann Aquillo, Vice President, Corporate Affairs, ScottsMiracle-Gro. "Having access to healthy  fruits and vegetables is essential  to good  nutrition  and we look forward  to helping  Feeding America  improve the health and wellness of our communities in need."

Miracle-Gro® Gro-ables® are ideal for those new to growing and for experienced gardeners – their  ready-to-plant Seed Pods™ take the guesswork out of gardening with seed, soil and plant food in an all-in-one biodegradable pod, making it easy for consumers to grow healthy, fresh food.

"We are fortunate to have a great partner in ScottsMiracle-Gro – they share our commitment to helping provide nutritious food to those at-risk of hunger every day in America," said Karen Hanner, Managing Director, Manufacturing Product Sourcing, Feeding America. "We know the fight to end hunger cannot be fought alone, and this donation of Miracle-Gro® Gro-ables® Seed Pods™ brings us one step closer to our goal."
